Welcome to another season of YMCA youth football!
The purpose of Gra-Y athletics is to teach kids the skills of the game while reinforcing the YMCA's four core values of Honesty, Caring, Responsibility, and Respect.
In 2010, we are looking forward to a great year with a few important changes:
First, we have a new Sports Director. Chad Canal joins us after moving back to the area with his family. Chad will be leading Football this year, and working to create other opportunities in the spring and summer for kids and families to enjoy YMCA sports.
Second, we will not be able to do a free clinic this year with the ULM Football players due to their schedule. But registration will happen instead in the (air conditioned) Coliseum and continue throughout that week.
Third, we have been asked to compensate ULM a little for the extensive use of their facilities. Therefore, we have had to raise the registration fees slightly this year. On the positive side, now every child registered for Gra-Y football in Ouachita Parish will also be registered at no additional cost in the Junior Warhawk Club! Club members get season tickets to all home athletic events, a t-shirt, invitations to special events, and an autographed picture of Ace. It's a great deal, and a great way for your family to enjoy ULM Athletics.
Finally, we have some new information available for parents and coaches. The Parent's Code of Conduct is on the back of every registration form (the signature page), and outlines our expectations for the adults who are involved in this league. Be sure to read it when you sign the registration form. And our 2010 Policies and Procedures (draft) are ready, explaining some of the details about registration, referees, teams, and so on. Flag Football is for kids ages 5 through 8. It offers younger children the chance to learn about football and teamwork while sharpening their skills. Tackle Football is for players 9 to 12 years old. For most of the kids it is a first taste of "real" football, with the equipment, rules, and plays mirroring those used in high school.
